I called my doctor's office on Tuesday, for the PT referral and the mammogram results. They told me to call back about both.

I called back yesterday, and the referral is, I am told, being mailed to me. (They said I could come pick this up, but given my schedule, I decided to risk the mails.) The person I talked to said I could call back today about the mammogram.

I did. Someone took my name and phone number, and promised to call me back. A while later, she did. She told me that they haven't received the results, and that they will call me when they do, because they always call patients when they get mammogram results.

If so, why did nobody know that on Tuesday or Wednesday?

Based on my experience at low-level flunkying, the people you spoke to on Tuesday and Wednesday know nothing about the mammogram results procedure, because they've never been taught.
