I'm back from another happy weekend in Arlington with
adrian_turtle, and getting reasonably familiar with the relevant bits of transit (though I already had the basics of the Red Line down from previous years). We mostly hung out in Adrian's air-conditioned living room; one project we'd hoped to get to, but didn't because my shoulder wasn't thrilled with the universe, was cutting foam so she can install a second air conditioner in her bedroom.
Yes, I packed the swimsuit. No, we did not go to the beach: instead, Adrian took a long afternoon nap, and I took a shorter one and read a bit.
It was a clumsy weekend: I kept bumping into furniture, bits of buses (from the inside, I hasten to add, but there's no good way to hit a bus with the top of your head), and the like. The low point was probably when I was icing my shoulder (for the rotator cuff thing) and my head in immediate sequence. It seems to have worked, though, in that I did not wind up with a noticeable bump. I am working on doing things left-handed: the issue is less that I have less control and dexterity lefty, than that all my reflexes are to do things right-handed, so I would do things like pick up the teapot with my right hand, remember, put it back down, and pick it up lefty. Useful note for future reference: the backpack, when not full of books, is easier on my shoulder than a wheeled bag being pulled along, because most of the weight is on my hips, not my shoulders. Yay Eagle Creek.
The weekend's plunder is 50 gm of vanilla tea, and two of the spring-loaded tea balls I like, from Tea Luxe in Harvard Square; and a copy of Amy Thomson's novel Storyteller (the current book-in-progress) and a bag for the Scrabble letters, both from Pandemonium (same neighborhood). Also, we had bagels, ice cream, and other tasty things that I don't count as plunder because they've already been consumed.
I noted last night that I had forgotten about buying a can of the purple hair dye and bringing it with me, so we could test whether it's a migraine trigger. Adrian asked me how important having my hair purple is. The answer is, not very: if it were, she'd have seen it purple by now. So I probably won't do it, because I don't want even a slight risk of causing her a migraine and because she and
cattitude have both mentioned that they like the texture of my hair in its natural, undyed state.
