redbird: Angolan sable, a rare antelope (Angolan sable)

I've just gotten back from my G.P. After asking me a few questions, and having me demonstrate what I could do with the shoulder that's hurting (basically, everything she asked me to try), she thinks I may have a small rotator cuff tear--more likely something old that the crunches exacerbated than something new. Thus: Motrin (= 600 mg. ibuprofen) every six hours as an anti-inflammatory (she doesn't seem to like aspirin), ice the shoulder, and an MRI, but they have to sort that out with the insurance company first. The MRI is to check on the rotator cuff, since X-rays don't show soft tissue damage. If there is some, I probably get physical therapy.

Also, she doesn't want me using the sling: I can if it hurts badly, but she thinks immobilizing it will increase stiffness. I hope the pills and icing help.

I incurred a rotator cuff injury in my right shoulder around 2 1/2 years ago. They never did an MRI, but my GP sent me to PT, and the PT was wonderful. I could feel the improvement weekly. It took awhile to completely heal, but it's fine now, thank goodness. I hope that you will be on the road to mending soon. Keep us posted on how you're doing with it.
