The thing I love about Molly Ivins is that she's portrayed as a liberal, and she's really not. She's such a common sense person that it's almost embarassing for the rest of us.

Even in Texas, liberals don't generally hate conservatives.

I'd have to disagree there. She's gone on record numerous times saying that she's not a liberal, she's Molly Ivins, and that she doesn't want to ever be called anything but. Her positions aren't as left-wing as they're often portrayed to be. She fully supported the Iraqi invasion in the beginning, for example, though for human rights reasons.

Still, no matter how you slice it, she's a voice of reason in a world of chaos, and I love her for it.

I'm quoting from memory here, so the words are wrong, but that's the gist of what she's said.

And by the way, in Texas they keep all the liberals penned up in one spot, Austin (excluding the State Capitol building). I lived in Houston for seven years. It was educational, coming straight from an East Coast liberal college.

Yes, most liberals aren't as left-wing as they're portrayed to be. If they were, they'd be left-wingers instead of liberals.
