I suspect the most useful thing I've done today involved about three minutes with google and switchboard.com. Second most useful is a tie between calling the unemployment insurance number (a weekly process, not the original registration) and baking apple ginger cakelings.

N.B.: It was useful, and the person on whose behalf I did it didn't ask and was understandably not thinking in those terms; it's just that I could have done additional useful things, given an entire day in which to do them.

I keep fiddling with papersky's recipe for apple cakelings (which is in my memories, along with a variant or two). This one included some candied ginger, diced small, and some ginger powder.

They are tasty.

The proportions are those of a pound cake, but scaled down to a single egg.

They're cupcake shaped, but not iced. I got the word, and the recipe I'm starting with, from papersky, who is from Wales.
