My fruitcake arrived! It has fancy silver dots on top. I am being sensible and saving it for after supper: it looks and smells like the kind of fine rich dessert that would leave little room for lamb and rice. Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] browngirl.

The little plastic things to slip on dangly earrings so they don't fall out have also arrived, with a very nice note from [livejournal.com profile] elisem, whose handwriting on a bad day is as good as mine gets most days. Thank you! Now I can wear those fine Swarovski crystal danglies. I emailed [livejournal.com profile] papersky earlier today, to confirm that the plans for while I'm visiting don't involve anything I need to dress up for--but I will probably take some nice earrings, just because I can. I got these at Minicon, and haven't had the chance to enjoy them because I was worried they'd fall out. Now I can. Also, fancy earrings, unlike much fancy clothing, don't leave me cold or pocketless, and are no more effort than simple earrings (and not much more than no earrings at all).

One of the current banes of my existence is the fact that maternity clothes generally don't have pockets. I guess the rationale is, "what, with all that stuff you've got going on around your midsection, you want to import more?" But yes, in fact, even with a belly, I would like to have pants pockets.
