I had a doctor's appointment this morning--just a checkup, and all is well. During the appointment, the doctor gave me what seems like a standard "exercise is good, even if you only do it in little bits" speech, and I reminded him that I like lifting weights. When I was done there, I went straight to the gym, and did so.

When I was stretching at the end of my workout, I got into conversation with Bob, a trainer I hadn't seen in a while. He'd been out for eight months, having his knee replaced and then dealing with breaking his foot several times (unrelated to the knee and, apparently, each other). And he hadn't realized I was back to being there in the mornings (which of course I hadn't managed when I was commuting to the Island). That was pleasant, and with any luck I'll catch up with him some time in the next week, before I go off to Montreal for New Year's and he goes to have his other knee replaced.

Lunch in Chinatown again, and this time I did find clementines. A little larger than I'd consider ideal, and a little pricier than they ought to be by now, but a genuine box of clementines. I also now have fresh rye bread, and rendezvous'd with [livejournal.com profile] cattitude at the supermarket to buy exciting things like olive oil and an acorn squash.

And someone just called, asked for me by name, and then explained that she was calling to see if we have heat and hot water this evening. I checked. The water is hot. Not sure if the heat is on right now, and told her so: but if it's off it hasn't been so for long, because it's probably below freezing outside, and I'm wearing only an oxford shirt and my underwear--and not the long johns from this morning, either--and am only a little cool. Though jeans are starting to seem like a sensible idea.

Gym details:
Cardio, 16 minutes, top heart rate 149

Calf machine, 75 pounds, 12, 8; 70 pounds, 12. This time, the 8 was because I was just tired, not incipient cramping. I think this is progress.

Bench press, 60 pounds, 10 reps. As I was about to start a second set, I felt an odd pain in my left upper arm, and decided it would be best not to.

Leg press, 230 pounds, 2 sets of 12
Adjustable row, 100 pounds, 15; 90 pounds, 2 sets of 15

Crunches, 4 sets of 20
Back arches, 3 sets of 17
Tree, 3 sets of {3 on each leg}

Triceps pulldown, 45 pounds, 2 sets of 15
Seated leg curl, 100 pounds, 11

Stretches

I might have been up for more, as far as muscle strength and comfort, but I was getting quite hungry by then--I'd been up for five hours on nothing but a small bowl of yogurt and one mug of tea.
