I spent part of yesterday collating samples of my work to send with a Request for Proposal--and discovering that I don't have all of them. So I called my ex-boss, and arranged to go into the office today, and pull what I need off the computer that, in theory, was to have been decommissioned by the time I left. The files are in a weird format, which I can't look at via a telnet session, so I have to go in, have her come get me from the lobby (badly organized post-9/11 security), and do it there. This could be interesting, especially as the custom seems to be for ex-employees to return only if they have good news. Then again, we were the first time they actually laid off more than one person at a time; odd all around.

And then Andy and I had dinner with the oft-mysterious D. Potter, who is in town for Thansgiving with her parents. Much fun. Food, talk, and a bit of walking around because we had some extra time. I cheerfully took her over to dba, rassef's local summer home, and she said the garden would be very nice in summer (light and warmer than when we were there), which it is. And then we were wandering along Waverly, and one of us said something about the construction on LaGuardia Place, and D. was shocked--"They tore down Loeb?! Why?!" So we went through the park, looked at the current state of the project--no longer just a hole in the ground--and the sign explaining that it's going to be a combination "center for student life" and performing arts center. So probably a bigger, better Loeb, but "center for student life" could cover almost anything on campus.
