I don't have time to do Feminism 101 for someone who is convinced--or prepared to claim, for the sake of rhetorical points--that Richard Nixon invented gender, race, and class. And I'm certainly not going to continue the discussion with someone who addresses me as "you idiots." I suspect this is even worse than "you people" as a signifier in online conversation, even two-person conversation.

What? I missed this. Sounds like a train-wreck worth reading about if one hasn't been caught in it (as you apparently have).

This was about five minutes of IM this morning. It spun out of a discussion, I think a useful one, in desayunoencama's journal. And it struck me as so blatantly and deliberately wrong that I couldn't figure out whether my interlocutor was ignorant of most of US history, or was deliberately ignoring it to defend an untenable position.
