Barry Bonds is a baseball player. He has over the past few years broken many of Babe Ruth's single-season records, many of which had existed for 80+ years. It turns out that Mr. Bonds has been training with a gym/personal trainer/company who has been giving him substances that include anabolic steroids - he claims not to have known that this was the case (a claim that I believe, though I'm not sure to what degree his ignorance parallels that of, eg, a businessman who tells his accountant to make his profit margins look good but doesn't know or want to know the precise details of how it is done). And so many people are now saying that Mr. Bonds' accomplishments are tainted by this use of illegal substances.
