The ceiling is leaking. Again.

This is almost certainly the result not only of today's heavy rain, but of the construction/repair work being done on the building.

It wouldn't be half so annoying if the drip weren't coming through the kitchen light fixture, requiring us--on a cloudy day in November--to keep that light off.

Some light comes in from the fixture in the "dining room" (a half-separate area of the kitchen that we use for food prep and random storage), but it's sub-optimal.

I once lived in a place that had that. One rainy day there was a loud crash coming from the kitchen, and when I looked in there I found that a large piece of the ceiling had fallen down. So hopefully the construction/repair work will eventually fix the problem instead of just making it worse.

My sympathies. Water is so insidious. I've suffered from dripping light fixture syndrome several times. In my case, under certain conditions of heavy rain, wind, gutter overflow (neighboring building) water gets through porous mortar or cracks in the brick outer wall of our building and flows between the floors until finding its way out through my ceiling light fixture. This happens in my closet so it's not as inconvenient as a light-less kitchen. I use a light on the end of an extension cord while waiting for things to dry out.
