A woman I've done freelance copyediting in the past just called, to see if I can work on a book for her. I can: we'll be meeting next week to talk it over, and she'll want the job by mid-December. We both save time, and she saves some money, because she's incorporating the papers I've edited for her in the past into this book (she's sole author, so it's entirely kosher). She also asked if I do indexing, but I've never done that, and this doesn't seem the time/place to start.

This is someone who originally got my name from [livejournal.com profile] baldanders: thanks again.

Good news. I guess if you feel the time pressure is too much then I can see not wanting to take on the indexing now, because everything I hear about it is that it's a lot of work. On the other hand, I also hear that it's a pretty lucrative and steady subspecialty, so being able to say that you've done it might be awfully valuable on a resume.

red_queen might be able to do the indexing, or teach you how...
