My experience is that every case is different, every lawyer is looking for a different jury makeup, and courts vary in the reasons they will allow jurors to be excused or dismissed. I'm a lawyer and a crime victim, so I went in fully expecting to be dismissed, and instead was seated on a civil jury that also included a local cop. So I'm not sure you can predict what will get you dismissed (other than lying about knowing one of the parties, which is perjury).
