We had take-out sushi (mostly eel-and-cucumber rolls) for supper tonight, because I couldn't stand the heat in the kitchen, and [livejournal.com profile] cattitude walked his feet off at the Bronx Zoo. Now, we indulge cats--so Julian gets a bit of whatever we're eating.

He likes eel. No surprise there. He likes shrimp. (Artemis didn't like sushi shrimp, only shrimp I cooked; Julian is more accepting omnivorous. Then Cattitude dropped a bit of sushi. Julian likes sushi rice, and seaweed--at least if they've been next to eel.

But that's no excuse for handing the boy wasabi.

He accepted it, then did a very impressive back up/doubletake/headshake. Cattitude giggled while admitting that he's evil, and I sent him to get Julian a bowl of milk, which seemed to help.

kitchen heat food suggestion...

Get some of the round rice-paper (or tapioca-starch paper) from an oriental grocery. Lay in a stock of greenery like salad mix, a protein source like pre-cooked meat from a deli counter, and a cucumber or something like that sliced into slivers.

Mix roughly equal parts of peanut butter and fish sauce, add some form of vinegar and enough water to make the sauce runny.

Soak the wrappers in water until they are flexible, fill with a variety of filling-stuff, and wrap into bundles that don't leak stuff. Dip in the sauce and enjoy.

[livejournal.com profile] jonsinger and I do this regularly on nights when it is too hot to cook and we are too fried to cook anyway.

A similar thing happened with our dog Chela once. We had microwave buffalo wings - there was spicy hot oil left on the plate. Chela licked the oil 3 or 4 times, then started licking the floor. And then she repeated the sequence - over and over and over until the oil was all gone!

Mea culpa, mea culpa, I admit I'm evil. But didn't he look funny when he realized what he had his lips around?

Poor Julian, I just couldn't stop laughing at that description.

I had a dog who would happily eat the whole hot dried peppers (not sure what they're called) from my Szechuan food.
