Julian woke me this morning by meowing.

While I was lying there, eyes closed, half asleep and listening to the cat noises, my subconscious showed me Artemis, our much-missed previous kitty, walking out from under the bed.

If I'd wanted to get up that early--or at any particular time--I'd have set an alarm, but I'll take the tradeoff of seeing Artemis in memory (my memory doesn't tend to be very visual) while awake enough to remember it now.

My cat did the same this morning. It wasn't an unreasonable hour, 10:30, and she mostly failed at rousing me, so it was OK.

At one point, after losing our 19-year-old cat, Beau, I woke up one morning to his meow. He had a very different meow from the other cat, Belle, so I was sure it was his. It made me sad and comforted at the same time.
