Gym

I arranged to take a shorter lunch today and catch the earlier train back into the city, getting me a little more time at the gym without being home later.

So I did cardio, mat work, and weight stuff. I got to talking with Brock, one of the trainers who was working Xpressline; he commented on my cardinal tattoo, and from there we talked about birds, wild and semi-tame. And then I mentioned that I'm going to Madison for the weekend. It turns out that he not only is from Madison, but worked at the Concourse Hotel when he was in college. I have thus promised him a report on Wiscon.

Cardio, 22 minutes, top heart rate 151

Calf machine, 75 pounds, 12, 12, 11: this time the left calf cramped and forced a slightly premature end.

Crunches, 4 sets of 20
Back arches, 3 sets of 17
Yoga tree, alternating sides as usual, sets of 2, 2, 3, and 2 per leg. The extra in the third pair because I was feeling wobblier than usual.

Xpressline, I did 12 reps on everything. Same weights as last time, except for 5 pounds less on the overhead press, because my left shoulder screamed at me on the second rep; instead of stopping, my first thought, another trainer (Kelly) suggested lowering the weight and using the more central handles. The outer handles get you more chest and shoulder exercise, and thus are preferable unless you have shoulder problems. So I used the inner ones on the next machine as well.

I've marked my card to increase the weights on the leg exercises; probably by five pounds on the leg curl and extension, and maybe add 15 to the leg press for an even 300. (At 285 pounds, a five-pound increase is about two percent.)
