Here is the entry for "Jew" in the Wikipedia.

The difference in the sites found by searching Google for "Jew", "Judaism", "Jews", and "Jewish" is quite startling.

As I said in my journal, I think this is probably because there aren't all that many circumstances where people would have a link that was just Jew (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jew) except for vilifiers, it's just not the sort of link sensible people would go for very much.

It takes Google a while, but if people of goodwill do this, it should work.

Judging by the reverse links page (http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=link:http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ejewwatch%2Ecom%2F), it doesn't look like a very heavy googlebombing campaign.

Keep in mind, many of the foreign Google mirrors apply automatic filtering against "hate speech" (it's required by law in France and Germany). So by going through google.co.uk, you may not be seeing all the sites.

So, What exactly is a 'Googlebomb?' I am all for anti racist action myself, and would love to help out in keeping racist stuff off the internet. So how do I Counter Google bomb?

Since Google's algorithms for what sites to display are based on having a lot of links to them, and a lot of links using specific terms, people sometimes will get together to have lots of links from different places to the same Website using a specific term.

It won't keep racist stuff off the internet. What it will do, or might do, is make it more likely, if someone randomly is looking for information on Jews, that they'll find a good article instead of racist filth.

The easiest thing to do would be to just copy the text from my post into your own journal. Make sure you include the link to Wikipedia: a simple ctrl-C ctrl-V won't do, because that only gets the plain text.

Do you know if hitting the site over and over from the same computer helps? If so, I think I could spend half an hour or so on this...

Hits don't count; links do. I don't know whether putting lots of links on the same Web page helps.

In order for the links to count, it needs to be a public post accessible by robots/spiders, right? So I need to change the settings on my journal, I guess.

So, is pointing at the wikipedia a wise idea? As anyone can contribute, that makes it easy for some asshole to mirror their spew into the wikipedia, removing all worthwhile content.

Yes, version control can undo that, but isn't it just begging to be eited by making that the counter-bomb site?

Plenty of people are keeping an eye on it, and if I need to I'll revert and protect the page.

(I suspect whoever thought of this isn't a Wikipedian; I am, and prepared to be de-sysopped if someone thinks I've overstepped badly.)
