The nice people I do intermittent temp office work for had a few hours of data entry, and suggested I come in at noon today. That seemed good, leaving time for a full-length workout beforehand. The calf muscle that cramped badly on Tuesday was okay this morning, but I decided not to push it; I'll return to that machine on Saturday; there's lots of other good stuff I can do. I even had time for a quick lunch between the two: I stopped at Amy's Bread and had some carrot/ginger/artichoke soup that was thick enough to be more like stew, and seriously gingery. The place was almost empty, so the staff chatted with me a little.
I hadn't prowled Ninth Avenue in ages, because I'm in the habit of going down to Chinatown for lunch after working out. I finished work around 3:15, and picked up sausages from a "pork store" on 38th Street (despite the name, they carry other meats as well), and then olives (for
cattitude), lentils, halvah, and unsweetened chocolate at an "International Grocery" which lured me in with the "EΛΛHNIKON" on its sign.
And then I came home to the news from Madrid. I was already feeling physically unwell (an odd pain across my chest, under my breasts; removing my bra made no noticeable difference), and my search for a comfortable position resolved itself as sitting cross-legged on the bed, leaning slightly forward, in my pajamas. I hadn't expected to sit there long, but I fell asleep. Cattitude woke me when he got home, by which time I was feeling much better but slightly unsteady on my feet. A cup of tea resolved that.
