I did another day's data entry for Creative Good, this time discovering an interesting flaw in their database setup (I don't know if it's inherent to the software). When they collect business cards of potential contacts, the first step for each card is to search and see if the person is already in the database. Then, update the record if it exists, create one if it doesn't.

When I search on a name ("Wilkerson" or "Barberry", for example [1]), if there's more than one match and I pick "create new record" it increments the number of records found, displays a blank record, and stays in find mode, rather than actually storing the data entered. [This is distinct from its known behavior of requiring the user to explicitly pick "create new entry" after failing to find any matches.] After a significant amount of wasted effort, I identified the symptom (I have no idea of the underlying problem), and found a workaround: after such a search, type xxxx or xyzzy or such in the first name field, and search again. Finding no matches, it goes back into edit mode and accepts the "create new record" command.

Between six hours of that, and an all-weightlifting hour at the gym, I came home pretty tired. However, I also came home with a mailing tube, so I can send off the hawthorn sticks. A successful day.

[1] In the set of names for today, Wilkerson was a surname, Barberry a given name.

I skipped cardio to save time, and on the theory that yesterday's walk in the hills counted as pretty solid cardio. That hour also left me with soreness in my front-of-thigh muscles, I think from all the downhill bits, which affected what machines I used at the gym this morning.
