I called the second agency that [livejournal.com profile] coyotegoth referred me to. They not only specialize in legal proofreading, but they only take on clients who have experience in working through another employment/proofreading agency. The man who answered the phone was very polite, and I was polite in turn, but I am not thrilled.

Hmm, I know the feeling. I discovered the other day that one of the reasons I'm having trouble getting copy-editing work is that most of the copy-editing for European scientific publishers (Elsever, Kluver, a lot of Springer's stuff) has been taken on by an Indian copy-editing company. Meanwhile, the freelancers who *weren't* sacked by my previous company are leaving in droves because they've changed production methods and are insisting that anyone freelancing for them has to pay 400 Euros for a copy of XMeTaL. There are a lot of freelance copy-editors looking for work at the moment...

Aargh- I was registering for so many companies at once back in those days, it's hard to remember who required experience and who didn't. Sorry to hear it.

Aww, *hugs*, I'm sure you'll get something soon. Don't worry, things always turn out for the best.

/me wonders if there was any chance that redbird would add her as a friend?
