I am glad that I'm no longer in grade school, and thus I don't have to make a list of the good things in my life, or thank some amorphous entity for them, instead of appreciating the people who are actually in my life, making it better and more joyful.

And I'm glad that I can remember these people, and the things I've done well for myself and the world, all year round, not just on the fourth Thursday of the eleventh month of the Gregorian year.

Nonetheless, I'm looking forward to sharing good food and conversation with three of these people in a little while. I doubt I could ever get all the people I love, and the many more I like and might come to love if the time and circumstances were right, around one table--geography alone would be a barrier, and some of them don't get along well with each other--but that's okay, because I get to share time, and food, with all of them, by ones and twos and threes and 12s.

You may already be done with the eating part, being on the right coast. I'm getting ready to go in about an hour. I appreciate all my friends, too, and you are one of them.

Happy turkey day to you.

Today is the day I appreciate all that I have and could have lost.

Happy Turkey Day, everyone!

Ick! This sounds like quite an insidious form of brain washing!

In my own journal, I posted four lists: important things, trivial things, people, and things so basic I forget to be thankful for them (like democracy and literacy).

I chose to explicitly include an amorphous entity on that last list - but that's meaningful in part because it's not a global assumption, it's not forced on me, but is my own free choice. Social acceptance of a variety of belief systems makes my own choice more personal.
