The upshot of this afternoon's shopping trip is a pair of slippers and half a loaf of rye bread. I wanted shirts, but didn't find anything I liked at Daffy's, and lacked the energy--emotional as much as physical--to proceed to additional clothing stores.

I just had the super in to fix the bathroom sink, again. Hoping the repair lasts more than a fortnight this time (it has a tendency to drip).

Not a nothing day, but not exciting either.

Half a loaf of rye bread?

Better than none, I suppose. I've just never seen half-loaves sold in the bakeries out here.

I would love it if I could pick up half loafs of bread. Given that I live alone and don't eat a lot of bread.

Until I ran into someone who couldn't eat any seeds or nuts, I couldn't understand why they would EVER make unseeded rye.

Except maybe for a nice onion rye.

If this is the bakery I'm thinking of, in my youth, I was sent there often enough on errands that the phrase, "half a large rye, sliced, no seeds, three kaiser rolls and an onion bun" has sunk into my subconcious in the manner of a particularly succesful advertising campaign.

The reason why their seeded/unseeded proprortions are off is probably because I no longer live there. I am unfriend to carraway.
