This one is to list poets you have books of poetry by (as distinct from their being included in anthologies, or having a novel by someone who also writes poetry). I got it from [livejournal.com profile] marykaykare but I think it started with [livejournal.com profile] oursin.

Note: [livejournal.com profile] cattitude and I share a book collection, but I'm not listing anything he got that I'd never look at. This may not be complete--the books aren't organized--and includes things I haven't looked at in ages.

W. H. Auden
Jim Carroll
H.D.
Emily Dickenson

T. S. Eliot
John M. Ford
Judy Grahn
Marilyn Hacker
Homer (or another writer of the same name)
Ursula Le Guin (yes, I also have most of her novels)
Denise Levertov
Edna St. Vincent Millay (I think the first poetry I bought with my own money)
Pablo Neruda (a mix of bilingual editions and English-only)
Dorothy Parker
Adrienne Rich
Sappho
May Sarton (though I found I prefer her prose)
William Shakespeare
Dr. Seuss
Jo Walton
Frederick Winsor (The Space Child's Mother Goose)

I have actually met five of the poets named above; no prizes for identifying them, given how many of the others died before I was aware of them, in many cases before I was born.

[I may edit this later if something jumps out at me; I'm not listing things I bought on someone's recommendation, put down quickly, and haven't picked up again. (Addenda after looking at other people's lists in italics.)]

Brian Aldiss
Carole Maso
W. S. Gilbert
Rudyard Kipling
Nick Bantock
Simon Drew
Vergil
Ovid
A. A. Milne
Eugene Field (1st edition, plates by Maxfield Parrish -- yum!)
R. A. Lafferty

and, of course, Kernighan and Ritchie.

I didn't know John M. Ford had published poetry (I mean, separately from the odd stuff that shows up in his novels). I was vaguely aware that LeGuin had, but all the stuff I have of hers is collected in mixed format - both poetry and prose, and as I don't particularly read or buy LeGuin for her poetry, I wasn't counting that.

T. S. Eliot of course (is there a cat-lover who doesn't?) and Dorothy Parker. I have no poetry by Shakespeare in separate volumes. Judy Grahn of course, and Marilyn Hacker, but I have no Dr Suess. If I were including mixed poetry/prose I would have Lewis Carroll.

On the other hand I have just remembered the first volume of poetry-by-itself that I bought with my own money and still own: Elsa Gidlow. *edits my list*

I have Frederick Winsor! It's a fun book, and the illustrations are really cool -- they remind me of ATom, I think.

Oh! We've got Odgen Nash and LeGuin too. And Robert Service and Kipling, but those are mainly Jordin's.
