But neither is it getting better.

I did another hard reset on the Palm. It seemed to be behaving: digitization, fixed date, turned system sound off, that stuff. So I restored my data from the desktop, and once again lost I/O from about half of the screen, including the part at the bottom that has control buttons.

Any Palm experts out there? It's a Vx, purchased in late 1999.

It's possible that one of your programs has become corrupted - that happened to me once. Try adding them back on one at a time, instead of doing a complete sync.

This sounds like a good idea, but I don't know how to do it. As soon as I sync to get the data back on the built-in programs, it's picking up everything from my desktop. Instructions would be greatly appreciated.
