I bought a new computer in December, rather than procrastinating, because I was worried about tariffs. And yes, it was shipped from China.

I bought my next three months' supply of tea, from India, a couple of weeks ago, and just ordered a bunch more spices, some of which are imported.

It now turns out that Trump is slapping high tariffs on Canadian and Mexican products, including produce and electricity. There's no way for me to stock up on that. Well, I would have been ordering tea soon in any case, because the slightly fancy Assam is my everyday tea. (I buy three pounds at a time, to save a bit on shipping).

Where do you order tea from?

McNulty's, on Christopher Street in Greenwich Village.

I'm ordering from them because as far as I can tell, they're the only supplier of the specific tea I like, which is the Golden Assam from Khongea Estate. They're not usually the lowest-priced supplier for teas that I can get elsewhere, or for coffee. When we lived in New York and I was working in Midtown, I took the subway down to the Village, bought tea from McNulty's, and then walked over to Porto Rico Importing for Cattitude's coffee.

I don't think it's technically possible, but he probably wants to lay a tariff on the water of Niagara Falls to make hydropower more expensive and get New York to stop using it. That source of green energy is old enough so he might think he can't just block it with the "Green New Deal."

We're currently buying electricity from Canada, I think both Quebec and Ontario. I don't know offhand who controls, or is responsible for, the Niagara Falls plant, or whether anyone in the current administration knows that most of Niagara Falls is in Canada.

Cat food might become a problem for me. I missed out on buying a computer, but if mine goes, I think we'll still be okay if we have an okay trade relationship with China.
