Planned DW price increase

denise has announced that, after 15 years, they will be raising prices for paid Dreamwidth time, rename tokens, etc.

They haven't figured out what the new prices will be, but the amount will be based on catching up with 15 years' inflation, to keep the site self-sustaining. They don't know yet when this will happen, but it will be in 2025, and they'll give people at least one month's notice.

Free accounts will continue to exist, with the same features they have now. Also, the site is having the usual December sale, of a 10% bonus on any points bought this month.

I haven't used it much these past few years, but I'm glad I got a seed account back in the beginning!

A few months ago, Denise pointed out that they don't take donations for legal/tax reasons. Because people were asking how to donate to Dreamwidth, they set up the "give time to a random user" option on the store. She also said that people at other sites and organizations are somwhere between surprised and disbelieving that not only are a lot of people buying paid time, they want to contribute beyond that.

In the past, I have offered to buy time for people who read my journal. If/when nobody asked for it, I have either used the "gift to random user" option, or gone to the holiday_wishes community and looked for someone who put Dreamwidth time or icons on their wish list. That way, Dreamwidth gets the money, and the time goes to someone who I know wants it. holiday_wishes is, conveniently for this, active at the same time as the December points bonus.
