Out of respect to redbird, no links to actual Vanna Bonta webpages. However, Jim "Doyle and MacDonald" MacDonald has a nice little review at http://www.sff.net/people/doylemacdonald/r_flight.htm (http://www.sff.net/people/doylemacdonald/r_flight.htm), which will give you some idea of her work.
In addition, the rec.arts.sf newsgroups were, some years ago, afflicted with "bontlings", enthusiasts who presumably pseudonyms for Vanna herself, or an extremely close friend. It's hard to believe that anyone else cared enough to post endlessly in defense of this stuff. See the postings of "toolyjim" (http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&safe=off&q=author:toolyjim%40aol.comnospam+) for an example of someone who comes from nowhere, defends VB, drivels on about some other stuff, and then goes away after a short but prolific burst of posting.
On the other hand, the "Is ___ TRYING to PUT ITSELF out of BUSINESS" thing comes from another prolific sf newgroup poster, who really wanted to get the SciFi Channel to change its ways, and is unrelated to VB. I just GET a KICK out of USING IT. Actually, the search "trying to put itself out of business" (http://groups.google.com/groups?q=%22trying+to+put+itself+out+of+business%22&ie=ISO-8859-1&hl=en&btnG=Google+Search) turns up some pretty amusing variations.
