We're moving in three weeks and I still have a lot to do, including talk to two utility companies. But we have hired a moving company and I reserved parking for the moving truck for the day of the move, and the signs and flyers were in today's mail.

A few people have come to look at the apartment, and yesterday the realtor came over to record a video tour, which I'm in favor of because it may mean fewer people in the apartment before we leave. I've mostly ducked outside during these visits, while cattitude kept an eye on things and made sure they didn't let the cats out.

The move isn't the only reason I'm not going to Scintillation--the travel and the amount of time indoors in groups seemed risky--but it was a factor. This way, I won't only be thinking that I want to be in Montreal with my friends.

A smaller but pleasing thing is that adrian_turtle knows someone who would like, and will wear, the silk shirts that no longer fit me. They're in my pack, and I will give them to her tomorrow, to pass along.

Moving is so much work! I've helped many many people move over the years, but have stayed put in my house for 29.

I love passing clothes around among friends/acquaintances, rather than donating to some thrift store.

I don't like how often we've moved in the last few years, after about 25 years in the same Manhattan apartment, but each move has made sense--to Seattle for cattitude's work, then to the Boston area because adrian_turtle lives here and we hadn't really connected with Seattle.

Then, the landlord in Arlington told us we had to move so he could move into the apartment, and gave us little enough notice that we wound up in a too-small place in Somerville, because needing a place that allowed cats and wasn't a walk-up limited us. We moved to the current place once Cattitude was willing to think about moving again. And this move is because the three of us want to live together, and needed a place with more rooms and more usable space. My hope is that we can stay there for a few years and then buy a place together. (This works if the three of us can in fact be happy living together, which seems likely but isn't a certainty. And the financial questions are affected by our ages and the rules for Social Security benefits and IRAs.)
