A bit of memory, surfacing this morning: I dreamed that I decided to take a C++ course, knowing that it wouldn't be interesting, but figuring that it would be salable.
Much, much sympathy. Sigh. And a huge hug. And a swift kick to this economy (not to mention the idiots in DC who are helping run it into the ground).
It's so hard to keep trying and applying for things and keep on with ordinary life without getting mired in despair, panic, fear (...uncertainty and doubt...). Keep on going, and know that there are plenty of folks who know your worth (as an editor and as a human/hobbit :-}).
I have one of your comments printed out and posted on my cube wall, BTW: "Copy editors don't *need* guns, true, but quite a few of us have wanted them from time to time, usually after the umpteenth time of seeing someone form the plural of an ordinary noun -- like "tomato" -- with 's. All in all, it is probably just as well thta most of us have no tool sharper than a colored pencil."
I don't particularly want a job but I've discovered that in return for time and effort I'm given pieces of coloured plastic which may be exchanged for goods and services. Have grown addicted to these so continue to play their little games.

And all of what I said about hugs and encouragement and True Worth goes for cattitude, too (so there!).

I spent all morning yesterday on an interview that came to nothing.
