My 40th high school reunion is coming up. There's a zoom event on Friday, plus an in-person gathering in Central Park on Sunday, and another event for fully vaccinated people. A couple of weeks ago I decided the in-person parts weren't worth the round trip from Boston, and I have now taken a freelance gig that might conflict.

Two hours of Zoom, with people I haven't been in touch with*, on Friday evening? I'm going to RSVP, to get the link and put the reminder in my calendar, and then see.

* The only person from Hunter I was close to as an adult was [personal profile] roadnotes, who wasn't in my class (she was a year older than me). Her comments on how disappointed she was at her thirtieth reunion weren't the only reason I skipped mine, but they were a factor.

My 50th may be clebrated in 2022; a couple of my classmates are trying to find out if enough of us would like to get together. There were only about 60 of us in the graduating class (not surprising, in a town of 1,500, where the high school had no 12th grade because you could get into our town's university directly from Grade 11), which meant we all knew each other far better than folks in larger school graduating classes. It may be why my 20th was a surprisingly good experience. I hope we can get together next year. And I hope that you have a surprisingly enjoyable Zoom visit with folks, should you decide in that direction.

Our school was definitely a "walk to school" experience. When I had to go to another high school outside of town in order to get Grade 12, I rode a school bus for the first time. It was kind of fun.

I wasn't on the mailing list for my 10th, despite my parents living in the same house. After that I decided I didn't really care anyway--I friended the people I really liked when I got on Facebook, not that I look at it ever.

I haven't gone to a reunion. (Past my thirtieth, haven't got to my fortieth yet.) There are a few people in my class I'd like to see again, but like you, some good friends were a year older or younger. I'll wait and see.

My 30th is soonish--not this year. I can't imagine doing Zoom with the group of them, though I went in person to the 10th and 20th. For the latter, about 25% of a class of ~450 showed up--not bad--and I remembered most of their names. I think it can help to have at least one amiable contact present; a friend and I wandered around together, which made it easier for people to get their "How are those nerds doing" remarks out faster as well as easier for us to turn the conversation to something more sensible.
