I missed a great opportunity a couple of years ago. We had a power failure for about 28 hours, and I didn't go out to look at the stars. I haven't seen stars over St. Louis for years, since we have so much light pollution. Too bad.
When I heard about the blackout is was daylight -- I didn't even think about its effect on light pollution. Stars in the NYC sky, must've been pretty good. Even in the mid-range 'burbs here it's too bright to see most of them.
I thought the hunter's moon was in October -- or was that because of the color?
Stars -- yes, I figured Thursday night was a good time to see them, and since the cloud cover had also cooperated by going somewhere else for a change...
We do get stars up here on normal nights, but only the brightest. I figured this was a great way to spend the night for awhile, since it was so hot and unventilated indoors, and I've always been fascinated by the stars. The sad thing was how few of the constellatons I remember.

The hunter's moon is lovely, too.
