I don't usually shower at 9:30 at night, right after dinner. Tonight, I had to.

This is an odd effect of casual domestic nudity. When it's this hot, I'm likely to be cooking nude. Tonight, I made cheese omelettes. In the course of cracking six eggs and dropping the shells, one at a time, in the kitchen trash, I got bits of raw egg on my skin.

Raw egg, these days, means "possible risk of salmonella." Very slight--but not a risk to take for no reason, and while raw egg in chocolate mousse can be worth the risk, raw egg sitting on my chest is not.

The only real drawback of this was that the cat expects to be offered a lap while I sit on the bed and dry off, and I couldn't do that at this hour, because I didn't want to sleep on wet sheets.

pasteurized eggs

Yes, there are pasteurized eggs. Twin Cities supermarkets have them. And I don't think they're a regional item like lutefisk tv dinners (imported from Canada).
