Yesterday around lunchtime I was feeling chilled, checked my temperature, and got 101.3, which was down to 99.5 a couple of hours later without being medicated. [For those of you in the metric world, 101.5F is about 38.5, and above the Covid symptom threshold.] That was a Sunday.
I checked my temperature again late this morning and got 99.7, so called the doctor's office. I described this to the receptionist, adding that any other year I wouldn't even have called. I just got a call back, from Michele, one of the nurse practitioners at Davis Square Family Practice. Given that my only possible Covid symptoms so far are fever and chills, and specifically that my sense of smell is still fine, she says to keep track of my temperature, and call back if it gets worse or there are other symptoms, in which case we'll figure out how to get me tested. If not, I am to refrain from errands or in-person socializing until it's been five days without symptoms.
Michele started to say that normally the safest thing would be to get me in for testing, and I explained that we don't have a car, so going for a test might increase other people's risk, which is why we're holding off. I explicitly have her okay to go for masked walks in the neighborhood, including during the first 48 hours.
