I just called my dentist's office and rescheduled my dental deep cleaning from tomorrow to October 21st. I probably don't have Covid, in fact probably don't have any sort of infection, but this isn't the time to bet on "probably" for a non-urgent procedure that has to be done with my mask off. Also because the office isn't in walking distance, so in addition to having to be maskless for the actual dental cleaning, I'd be interacting with Lyft drivers. Masked and with windows open, but still not a risk worth taking.

I'm doing this because of a dry cough and some congestion Monday night, a little bit of dry cough last night, and slight congestion this morning. I took my temperature this morning right after waking up, and got 96.2°F.

I hope the cough and congestion turn out to be nothing more than some fall allergies!

I often find temperature-based diagnostics to be an aggravating experience. I don’t know if this is still true for me but for many years my baseline temperature was ~98°F even. A triage or intake nurse would be all “oh, your temperature is only 99.5, so you don’t have a fever.” I’d point out that it was elevated a degree and a half from my normal, but because it wasn’t a fever based on the supposed normal of 98.6 then it wasn’t a fever.

As someone whose base temperature for many years was more like 98.3 than 98.6 I agree heartily with both paragraphs of your comment.

Hope it’s just the sniffles!
