hair cut?

I have made an appointment for a haircut, in about four weeks.

This is less thinking it will be safe then, than thinking that if it isn't, it won't be for months or years beyond that. If it doesn't feel safe, I will cancel this appointment and not make another.

In the meantime, I have *something* in my calendar for the next few months that isn't a medical appointment.

My salon opens back up on the 4th!

At least my hair is no longer the mid back length it was for twenty years- I had it bobbed about a year back as I fancied a change.

I am setting reminders for anything more scheduled and specific than the every-other-week recycling pickup. I am also glad that my doctors' default is to call and/or text a few days in advance to remind me of appointments.

That is sensible and maybe I should make an appointment in that reasoning too. Hrm.

I'm letting my hair go until...ugh, maybe November. It's super long for my preference, but I have not heard one word from my hair salon about getting me back in or what they're doing to make the experience safe, so...whew, not me, not yet.

My salon has been very good about keeping us up to date on precautions; the owner was also on the city's taskforce for figuring out how to do it safely.

My main concern isn't being safe during the haircut, it's getting there and back, since I don't drive. (Not a long trip, but an awkward one, involving at least one bus, and in normal times a short trip by subway.)

I'm seeing my doctor the week before, and her office is close enough to the hairdresser's that I'll be using that as a gauge for whether it is/I feel safe. It helps that they're both in Somerville, which is being more cautious than the state government.

I feel silly: turns out hair salons have not been open here. Not considered essential. I suppose some people are doing private visits, but that's why I haven't heard.

I'm going to visit a chiropractor next week and hope that's safe. Will take a lot of precations and postcautions. I'm not half as worried about my procedure in early July because I expect the hospital to be ultra careful about infection.

Knowing what risks you are, or might be, willing to take is still valuable.

A chiropractor doesn't have to come as close to your face as a hairdresser might, so that's mostly about how careful they are about infection control in general.

I'm not sure how my stylist will cut my hair, since it's a short scissors cut plus buzz-cutting the hair on both sides of my head, with my mask on, but I'm sure they have worked it out.
