I've had my first mammogram. Frankly, sitting in the waiting room for 45 minutes with an over-loud TV playing obnoxious cartoons, and someone very loudly explaining over a cell phone that she was quitting smoking and (blah, blah, blah...) was less pleasant than the actual procedure. I wouldn't recommend it as a recreational activity, but it was both quicker and, for the most part, less painful than Saturday's hair removal. Quick is good.

My right foot is currently wrapped in a compression bandage; I'm applying an icepack on and off, and taking ibuprofen. I have high hopes that it will be better tomorrow, but I will NOT go to the gym tomorrow, because that would be stupid. Probably not to Rose's either. *sigh*

[livejournal.com profile] womzilla generously drove me to the radiology place, picked me up when I was done, and drove me home via a drugstore (for the bandage). Thank you again.

I had mammograms every 2 years starting at age 30. Lucky, too, because when I was 36 they found a lump. They called me in for a second mammogram, confirmed it was there, gave me an ultrasound, and removed it right then for biopsy (it was not cancerous, thank goodness). Now I have them every year. All the women in my mother's family have had breast cancer, and some quite young (age 35), so they started me on regular mammograms early.

Even if I found the pain (okay, discomfort) of a mammogram equal in intensity to that of hair removal (from where??!!, eeek, I barely managed the lower legs... long story, won't go there), I would prefer the mammogram simply because it's a much higher purpose, catching cancer before it caught me.

Still, happy not to be contemplating one (http://www.livejournal.com/users/crazysoph/10924.html) again for awhile....(ps protected entry, sorry to the non-friends)

I'm a very bad correspondant at the moment ... did I miss a particular reason why the mammogram was thought necessary? Here's to a clear result!

When alone in waiting rooms, I've been known to turn down the volume to almost mute if I can reach the controls. I've never had the nerve to do so when someone else is in the room though.
