Our cat Kaja seems to have gotten out of our apartment some time Friday. We didn't miss her right away, and then spent a bunch of time looking around the basement -- both the finished basement that's part of our apartment, and the unfinished part with the laundry machines and boiler -- before concluding that she definitely wasn't there. By then it was fairly late, so we decided we'd deal with the problem the next morning (assuming the cat didn't turn up).

Saturday morning I talked to a very nice woman at Belmont Animal Control, who asked me for information to put on their Facebook page. (The post. including photos, is at https://www.facebook.com/Belmont-MA-Animal-Control-314305746191123/ and mentions that we just moved to Belmont.) We spent some time yesterday ringing neighbors' doorbells, and putting up some "lost cat" posters. No response yet; I went over to [personal profile] adrian's Saturday as originally planned, rather than sit home watching [personal profile] cattitude fret and play Civ.

The plan for today is to catch up on stuff we'd been going to do Friday and Saturday, and when it cools off a bit [personal profile] cattitude will go out and put up more "lost cat" posters. (He deals with heat a lot better than I do, but isn't immune to it either.)

We also left messages at a couple of local vets, and Waltham and Watertown Animal Control (those on the advice of the Belmont animal control person), and I called our vet in Somerville, because it couldn't hurt and I know they're open on weekends.

Uh, must be stressful! I just want to cheer you up with my friend whose cat went missing for 2 months and just this week came back, with a few ticks but otherwise quite well.

Hope she comes back soon and is okay (and hasn't done any damage to other cats or the local bird population)

Oh dear. I too have a story of a cat who got lost and returned home after almost six weeks. Apparently the average is about a month.

You've probably considered this, but it's also entirely possible that she has gone to ground right in the apartment in some spot nobody can see her. One of my partner's cats does that every single time he moves, and even though we know he does it, we absolutely cannot find him and panic. Then he eventually comes out; and it's so hard to believe he was concealed in the space he came out of. Sometimes his person misses the emergence and never does figure out where he was, except still inside.

I hope Kaja surfaces very soon.

Oh, good other cat! (Molly, I think?) Yes, one can hope. But cats are notional.

I'm sorry! I hope she turns back up both soon and well!

I'm so sorry. Do you have a porch or other somewhat sheltered outdoor space where you could leave a water bowl and a blanket that smells of you? If she's lost and doesn't know how to find home again, something with your scent will help her get her bearings.

I hope she turns up soon. I've shared the FB post to my page just on the off-chance one of my Boston friends comes across her
