food: camu camu

cattitude noticed a camu camu flavored soda while we were shopping today, and bought it because we had no idea what it was.

The flavor (at least in this soda) is pleasant and mild, in a vaguely orangey way; Wikipedia says it's a fruit in the rose family. I'm counting this as a new food.

The plant is extremely tolerant of flooding, withstanding four to five months with the roots and even much of the aerial parts submerged in water.

The label reads

"Galvanina
Organic Fruit
Italian Sparkling Fruit Beverage

Galvanina seems to be the brand name, and I haven't heard of them before. This is from a butcher and small grocery store that also has interesting cookies, a variety of cold cuts -- cattitude was delighted to find that they have olive loaf--and a few prepared meals.

I know that nuts.com sells camu camu powder, fwiw. That's the only place I've ever seen it sold.
