[Poll #1641212]

I'm not asking for gifts, I'm asking for ideas. I can't come up with anything that isn't either trivial (another bar of dark chocolate with cherries, which I can get at the corner store for a few dollars), absurdly over-extravagant, or nonexistent (the tangerine herb tea I was very fond of, which has been discontinued).

The chocolate isn't trivial because it would cost less than five dollars, it's trivial because it's practically a staple in this household.

[I don't think polls cross-post properly, so I'm posting this separately on DW and LJ.]

I would think a book with a note attached from the giver explaining why he or she chose that book for you would be a great gift. Not only would you get a book but also the warmth of knowing they put some thought into the gift. And perhaps it would give you some insight into your relationship with that person.

Does it have to be something tangible? Donations to your favourite charity are always popular among our Relatives Who Have Too Much Stuff.

I tried charitable donations but everybody basically hated it. I am certain that I cannot buy, in my budget, anything that any of my relatives would certainly like.

What I do is, whenever I'm vaguely interested in something, unless it's something I think OH I MUST HAVE THAT RIGHT NOW, I put it on my Amazon wishlist (which incorporates things from other sites now too). And then I weed it a bit in early November, and point anyone who asks at it.
