The problem with piped Christmas music in stores isn't just the short playlist. It's that everyone is using the same short playlist. In July, there's at least the chance that if store A is playing "light music," B will be doing oldies, and C some other sort of pop, and D might be playing country.
Thus, for my current purposes, Duane Reade is a much better drugstore than CVS, not because I was able to find most of what I was looking for, but because they weren't broadcasting music, or for that matter talk radio or announcements of sales, so I was willing to take a bit of time to look. (I am fairly sure that CVS stocks ibuprofen.)
