I'd noticed a couple of days ago that I had old paperwork from Update Graphics, which hadn't led to anything, but figured it was worth trying again, especially since I already had the appointment.
When I got there, the receptionist commented that I was "re-registering" and thus wouldn't need to fill out all the forms. She said they'd last been in contact with me summer 2005. We sorted out that, well, actually they had attempted to reach me on my previous cell phone number. I made sure they updated it, and reiterated that the land line is preferable, because I have very bad connectivity while home.
I waited a few minutes, then had a nice conversation with Kaity, in which I told her what I'd like to do (copyediting is excellent, proofreading is fine), and what I wouldn't (third shift is right out, and I might take some brief second shift assignments, but nothing long-term with those hours). I said I'd be willing to do (again, short-term) long hours, but not a long commute such as I'd done at Publishers Clearinghouse. Then I took a proofreading test. I'll check in next week: by then they'll have had a chance to grade said test, and I can ask what they have available.
After that, I went back to the gym (where I had stashed a bag), changed, and exercised. The workout was pretty straightforward, except that my lower back was, and still is, bothering me, and that a new trainer (hight Andrew) came over while I was doing my bicep curls and suggested I do something slightly different. I'd have been happier had he not wanted me to stop in mid-set to shake his hand and talk to him. I told him I was going to finish the set, and did (and maybe slightly over, because I'd lost count).
I'd had plans to help
porcinea celebrate her birthday after that, but she had to cancel, so I'm home with
cattitude. I also had a brief chat on the trip downtown with Sue-Rae, who noticed me when I looked up from my newspaper and said hi. I mentioned my job hunt, and she mentioned that her business is looking for a web developer; I have no idea what sort of budget she has, in terms of either what she's offering or how solid the funding is, but if you're interested, I can put you in touch.
Cardio, 20 minutes, top heart rate 154
Chest press, 70 pounds, 12, 8
Calf raise, 82.5 pounds, 13, 10; 77.5, 10
Adjustable row, 70 pounds, 3 sets of 15
Leg press, 270 pounds, 3 sets of 15 (I tried loading on 320, and it was clearly too much; taking off the 25-pound plates was simple, so I just did that, rather than then going and getting more plates to make it, say, 290. 270 turned out to be plenty.)
~Fly, 50 pounds, 15 with each leg forward
Wrist curl, 30-pound bar, 3 sets of 15
Crunches, 3 sets of 30
Back arch, 3 sets of 17
Tree, 4 sets of {3 on each leg}
Balance lateral raise, 5 pounds each hand, 3 sets of 15 (the usual way)
Bicep curl, 25-pound bar, 3 sets of 25
Variation, starting with arms down next to body and lifting through 180 degrees, 5 pounds each hand, 15
Stretches
