I've just spent a pleasant half hour or so playing guinea pig for someone who is researching reading and specifically wanted copyeditors and proofreaders as subjects. She's still looking for people, especially in the Bronx or Westchester, and is paying professional rates, not the $5 they give undergrad psych students. I have her contact info if anyone--particularly Westchester and Bronx residents--is interested. Both because she hasn't published yet and because readers here may become experiment subjects, I can't go into details about what we did, but will note that I had a reasonable time drinking tea and doing the experiment, and fun discussing it with her when we were done.

I'm still having problems with Eudora; I can read email, but things I download become difficult to reply to. (I'm sending mail from the shell using mutt, but there are queued replies sitting in my Eudora outbox.)

I'm interested in the study. Not sure if my creds qualify, as I'm not a professional copyeditor, but please pass on the info! beetiger AT LJ should work.

Panix made some change to their mail servers a couple of weeks ago; since then, I've had more time-out errors than before, but otherwise have not had anything like the problems you've had. I'm using a paid copy of 5.1 for MS-Win, with the software update from 29 November 2001; are you using an older version?
