Octavia Butler died yesterday. I'm going to miss her, miss her writing mostly--I'd seen her at a con or three, but I didn't actually know her.
She was an excellent writer. I couldn't always read her--most of her work is very dark, and I can't always handle that. But she was one of our best writers--whether "we" means science fiction or simply American literature.
