Our original plan was to go to the gym in the morning, then meet for lunch and the zoo. But that would have required getting up and out Early, and while I was up early,
cattitude wasn't. So instead we played Scrabble, went out and got some lunch, and went to the Bronx Zoo.
Unfortunately a lot of the animals were indoors and not visible, including the okapis and most of the gorillas. But we saw turtles sitting on logs, in a pond the other end of which was still ice-covered; lots of ducks; red-wing black-birds; some monkeys; and plenty of cranes. The flamingoes are outside again, the trees are all budding, and the snow leopards were lying there in plain sight looking like nothing in particular.
cattitude has downloaded his pictures, and one of the birds we saw on the Bronx River--within the zoo, but not captive or part of an exhibit--was a green-winged teal, a new one for our life list(s).
But mostly, it was 66 degrees (that's 19 C) and sunny, and I was walking around in a t-shirt, carrying my light jacket. The zoo was a good place to be outdoors, but the being outdoors was the main thing.
Tomorrow it will be cooler, and I will get up and out early, and lift pieces of metal.
porcinea, I'm considering heading down to Rue des Crepes for lunch afterwards; should I call you?
