I seem to be getting worse at preparing to travel.

It's not just that it seems to be taking me longer to pack--despite using the same bag and having a fair idea of what I want to take on any given trip. It's more that the pre-travel fidgeting is increasing. I'm not nervous about anything specific--which is unfortunate in a way, because it means there's nothing I can take care of and thus resolve the fidgeting. I've an alarm set for 6 a.m., which means I really ought to be in bed by now. But I just finished collecting reading for the train (it's a ten-hour trip, and I can't spend the whole time looking at Lake Champlain), and I have a cup of herb tea (even the weak green jasmine dragon would be a bad idea at bedtime).

[livejournal.com profile] cattitude is being basically helpful and practical, making sure I've packed all the essentials, and the not-quite essentials (Montreal isn't the end of the world, I could buy extra socks if I managed to leave them out of my suitcase). [livejournal.com profile] julian_tiger is treating it like any other evening, meaning occasional loud meows, bouncing off the walls [this is not an idiom or analogy in his case], and insisting on bits of everything I'm putting into tomorrow's lunch. (Most cats will ask for turkey. Few want cucumber or lime curd.) I'll miss them, much as I'm looking forward to seeing [livejournal.com profile] rysmiel, [livejournal.com profile] papersky, and [livejournal.com profile] zorinth.
