I want to write a long loc to Banana Wings (once I finish reading it), which will include a ramble about the Tiptree Award in response to Claire's article about the Clarke Award and what she found irritating about it. This is in part because one advantage of the Tiptree approach is that, by not publishing a shortlist ahead of time, we're spared the "well, those are five good choices, and then they needed a sixth" reaction that the Clarke (and, I'd guess, some other awards) produce. And in part because one thing that came up when I was a Tiptree juror was what counts as sf.
