We looked at an apartment yesterday, and liked it enough that we have put in an application. It has enough space--slightly more than we had said we were looking for--including a good kitchen and two bathrooms, and is on the first floor (a few steps up from the sidewalk. It's an easy two-block walk from the bus; the downside is that's in Belmont, two blocks from the 73, which puts us further from
adrian_turtle than we really wanted.
The combination of near transit, accepts cats, and few if any stairs constrains things enough that when we saw something that satisfies those needs, in our price range, we said yes.
Now we have to wait and see if the landlord says yes (I don't know of any good reason he would turn us down, but I suppose a landlord might prefer tenants who are still working instead of basically retired.
The real estate office is in Belmont Center, so after we dropped the application off I went around the corner to
Ranc's and had a saffron-cardamom ice cream cone. A large scoop of ice cream may not have been the best choice for second breakfast (in terms of emotional stability), but some ham and a banana seemed like a reasonable lunch and now I'm feeling a lot better, despite a sore hip.
