We spent a chunk of yesterday moving everything out of the kitchen so the landlord/management company could spray for insects. this is something they do periodically whether a given apartment needs it or not; where they expect people who don't have three bookshelves waiting to be filled with books to put their dishes, pots, and food i don't know. and of course we had to shut the cats into the spare bedroom.
that wore us both out, physically and mentally. the exterminator was here for maybe five minutes, nad when asked what he was spraying with said "it's a chemical" [duh] and then gave a name that, when Cattitude checked, is a thing against bedbugs.
we took his advice and got out for a couple of hours. that included a little more exploring, a stop for restorative pastry, and then over to
adrian_turtle's apartment because, when she suggested that, my immediate reaction was "i want to go home."
Then we had lunch, got some groceries, and came home, to find that the cats were no longer shut into the bedroom. No, they are not amazing escape artists: the management company had also sent someone to replace the windows (as promised), in the course of which they rearranged various things so they could get to the windows. The thing is, this was originally supposed to happen before we moved in, and when we asked about it the agent said it would be sometime "after September 1," because some other apartments that need that done would be vacant this month. Today is not after September 1, and i would rather that one or both of us had been here, given cats.
Also, while the glass in the large living room window is definitely an improvement, the screen doesn't quite fit. which means either someone has to talk to the building agent—who was rather short with me when I tried to find out what was going on with the exterminator, and whether this was mandatory, and such—or we have to see what can be done with duct tape. holidays being what they are, any phone call will be for Tuesday or later; duct tape could be bought on the weekend.
Yes, we wanted to rearrange dishes etc., which had been unloaded rather catch-as-catch-can, but in the short term we need to be able to get at things, as well as recover from what we've already done. (If they really want us to do this again in six months, i am probably going to flat-out refuse on the grounds of physical inability.)
