redbird: full bookshelves and table in a library (books)

Brief again, but brief is better than not at all:

Recent reading:

Moominland Midwinter, by Tove Jansson. A book about the winter Moomintroll wakes up partway through the family's winter hibernation; a whole different population is awake while the moomins and the people and animals they generally spend time with are asleep. He and eventually Moominmamma deal pretty well with chaos, a certain amount of destruction, and the consumption of all their jam by random hungry visitors. These are fun, and I think I have a couple left.

Kindness of Strangers, by Julie Smith. Another Skip Langdon mystery, which I think takes place immediately after the one I read a few weeks ago. It's on the thriller end of detective novels, complete with genuine psychopath villain cult leader/politician and a hurricane, as well as the ongoing story of Skip and her friends and family.

Next up:

The Goblin Emperor, by "Katherine Addison". Yes, because it's on the Hugo ballot, and also because I liked her previous novels (published as by Sarah Monette).
