I am here in gorgeous cool sunny Montreal (overnight lows below 20 C!), hanging out with [livejournal.com profile] rysmiel and [livejournal.com profile] zorinth. I had a good time with [livejournal.com profile] papersky Wednesday, having cleverly scheduled my travels to have the afternoon alone with her before she had to get ready to go to Worldcon.

I did almost nothing yesterday, being badly sleep-deprived: I got up at o-dark-thirty to get to the airport, and then slept very badly that night. More precisely, I had some sort of nightmare (of which all I remember is being somewhere high, and afraid), and then Rysmiel was asking me if I was okay, having heard me cry out. I was, basically, but despite a comforting hug I never really got back to sleep that night. So I rose when Papersky did, had tea with her and agreed "see you at New Year's", and decided it was as well that I'd made no plans for the day anyhow.

I eventually went out, three blocks each way to the patisserie, chocolate croissant and an apple pastry and even some bread, then came back, ate, and sort of half-napped with Bill Bryson's In a Sunburned Country (of which more, possibly, anon). When Rysmiel got home from work, Zorinth and I were doing geography, including far-flung French possessions and the delights of an atlas that shows sea-floor elevations. I suspect I may be a better geography teacher than his geography teacher, but at least his school still teaches geography. We went out for Chinese food--and I tried a new kind of mushroom, not-that-helpfully identified in this context as a "white mushroom", which it was, but so were the enoki, which I decided I'd disliked enough last time not to try this time. [livejournal.com profile] jonsinger, are you familiar with a very fractal white Chinese mushroom, delicate of flavor. Stopped on the way at the time travelers' bookshop--if the pulps weren't sufficient proof of its identity, the section of Westerns would be--and another used book outlet.

Today, I've read two volumes of the Lucifer graphic novel, and am quite impressed.
